Information on the Fachoberschule (FOS)
The underlying idea
The students of the New Specialized Secondary School (FOS) will have economics, accountancy and applied computer science as main subjects. Besides, they will receive solid tuition in the subjects of general education, above all languages (Arabic, German, English, French).
On top of that the students are to acquire practical skills and knowledge through extended work experience (20 weeks altogether) in different companies.
When they graduate from the FOS the students will be able to cope with any situation in the field of everyday life, study-related questions and vocational career. The FOS-students will be capable of competently handling modern means of information and communication, they will have an excellent command of at least two modern foreign languages and they will comprehend economic interdependencies.
Internships
The above mentioned practical work experience takes place in various industrial and economic sectors and is followed up and surveyed by the school.
This vocational training will be placed at the end of class 10 and at the end of class 11. The students ought to be given the chance to get to know more than just one firm during their vocational training period.
Examinations
The FOS-students will obtain two certificates: An Arabic Certificate which entitles the student to enter Egyptian Universities and the German “Fach-Abitur” which entitles them to enter Universities of Applied Sciences in Germany.
The students must pass the Thanaweya-Examinations in Arabic, History, Civics and Religion. They will have written examinations in English, Math, German and Economics and one oral examination in a subject of their choice. The procedure of the German examinations in the FOS section and the Abitur are similar.
Graduation from the FOS entitles the students to study at any university for applied sciences in Germany or to take up studies at virtually any university in Egypt. Alternatively, the students can also directly choose a vocational career.
